As a child, I would shield myself by hiding behind my father’s legs. I was such a shy child, that now, at nearly 30 years old, old friends remark on how I used to hide.
As an adult, I now hide at home. Anxiety and depression have not only buried the outgoing side of myself but make basic tasks from grocery store trips to getting dinner with friends difficult, exhausting, and sometimes impossible.
After starting therapy and medication, I still felt there was a missing link. Depression haunted me, feeding my anxiety and leaving me feeling stuck. No matter how I tried, independence was a struggle.
In addition, dizzy spells and migraines make me wish I had someone—or some-dog—to steady me, help me catch my breath, and guide me to safety.
Now, I’m ready to take the world on and live life to the fullest!
I’m ready to visit grocery stores without fear, be the friend who shows up at parties, and let my adventurous side be free. As I re-enter the workforce, I am excited to embrace things that are hard with a companion at my side.
Dogs have always been a source of comfort for me, and having a companion to ground me has made a big difference in my life. A service dog will offer the extra level of attention and training needed to help me accomplish my goals and dreams. From helping me manage anxiety at home to offering help when I go out.
A service dog will be a valuable resource in gaining confidence, freedom, and independence.
